Waitangi Day is fast approaching and here at Poihakena Portraits our focus has turned to Maori or NZ festivals and events. Gareth and I have a full line up ahead of us and we are very excited to meet new faces and hopefully photograph a lot of them. Promoting Whakaahua Maori wherever we can is a big part of our kaupapa. If we inspire other maori to take up the mantle of photographer then awesome!

But tomorrow is another significant day for the people here in Australia. Commonly known as Australia Day, also referred to as Invasion Day, Sorry Day, Survival Day and a day of mourning.

There will be big events all over the country. Im not sure what is happening in other areas but in Sydney there is a big hui in Camperdown. Its an Indeginous event run in conjunction with the local council.
