Poihakena Portraits was started in 2014 to help raised funds for Urukahurangi Te Kōhanga Reo in St Clair.
While at a committee meeting at the Ratahi whare a family portrait day was proposed by Teowai who at the time was running Say Monkey Photography. Whaea Kaylene saw the above portraits of the Ratahi girls and suggested the Portraits be done in kakahu like these ones.
The first Portrait Fundraising day in August 2014 was such a success that the other Sydney Kōhanga were keen to do the same and our business was born. Since then we’ve held portrait days for Kapahaka roopu, marae and community centres and raised over $30,000 for Māori roopu in Australia and New Zealand.
We photograph families, adults and children wearing kapahaka style costumes and kahuhuruhuru. We provide Moko stamps for those who want them and offer Prints, Digital files and Canvas.
If you would like to apply for a Portrait Fundraising Day for your roopu head to our fundraising page or contact us.
